Milk and dairy products

 

This group contains milk, yoghurt, cheese, fromage frais, milkshakes, and cheese. These foods contain protein, vitamins (B12, A,D) and calcium which helps keep our bones healthy and strong. The body absorbs the calcium in dairy foods easily. Calcium is important during the teenage growth spurt and also for older adults.

One portion of Milk & Diary Product is:

  • One glass of milk.
  • One slice of cheese.
  • One pot of yoghurt or fromage frais.
  • Half a tin of low-fat custard.

What type of food should I eat?

  • Move to low-fat or fat-free milk or yogurt
  • Choose fat-free milk, yogurt, and soy beverages (soy milk) to cut back on
    saturated fat.
  • Replace sour cream, cream, and regular cheese with low-fat yogurt,
    milk, and cheese.
